Time Does Not Exist
What time is it? Its ‘now’. Always, it is ‘now’. Well, its the ‘local’ now, always.
What? You see, the perception of ‘time’ isn’t the same everywhere in the universe. Based on where we are, and the speed / direction we are traveling, and the gravitational forces we are subject to, we can only experience certain ‘views’ of existence. Our perception of time isn’t the same as the time experiences in another galaxy.
Wait, you said time does not exist, right?! Yeah, I said that. The universe is constantly, ceaselessly unfolding. The previous instant is gone, forever, and the next instant has yet to arrive. It is ‘now’. There is no existent past or future to time travel into. Time is just a measuring tool we ‘made up’ to help us comprehend and manage the series of events that occur. We notice that something is not as it used to be so we need a way to label and measure these changes.
The only reason we need a concept of time is because there is ‘space’. That old Einstein ‘spacetime’ concept.
Imagine this, the only space in the universe is the space you occupy. Literally, you are suspended in total darkness, the complete lack of any light. You can’t move a finger, or even blink your eyes, because there is no space in which to do so. You hear no sound, you see no movement, you smell no aromas, you taste no flavors and you feel no breeze upon your skin. NOTHING EVER CHANGES…EVER. You would have no sensation of time because there would be nothing to measure.
Now, flip the script and you’re flying at the speed of light through our ever-expanding universe. You are used to the way our bodies wear down and age on planet earth. We celebrate birthdays as we age. So, surely, there is such a thing as time. But, as you hurtle through space as fast as a photon, encumbered by inifinitely less gravitational force, your body doesn’t age much at all. Suddenly, your concept of time changes drastically.
The measuring stick we call ‘time’ does have practical applications in our limited experience on earth. We can use it as a frame of reference for our life experiences and to control various activities. It is quite useful to manage scientific experiments. However, as a tangible, constant reality of our universe, it simply does not exist.
