What is Love?
We tos the word ‘love’ aroiund very casually, yet we say. “Love is all we need to save the world”. Wow! If that’s true, you’d think we would be more careful with our use of this word. So, what actually is ‘love’?
A few ideas:
1. Energy - literally a physical force that attracts us to a person, place or thing. We feel sadness, loss or grief when this physical force ceases to be.
2. Emotion - Feeling of joy, pleasure, satisfaction or contentment in the presence of, and/or interaction with, a person, place or thing.
3. Value - A deep, abiding appreciation for a person, place or thing; such that you will commit acts of will to sustain and/or grow it, without thought of compensation or reciprocation.
Issues with love:
All too often, people confuse love with the satisfaction of their physical, mental or emotional needs. A person who’s needs are not being met may project the idea of love onto anyone or anything that helps them feel better. These feelings can be born of insecurity and are frequently selfish. This view of love can be volatile and fragile, often feeding a cycle of perceived love, loss, betrayal and deepening need for constant validation.
Regardless, what is your definition of love and how does it manifest in your life? What truly ‘moves’ you? Why? No need to answer. Its just something you really should sort out for your own benefit. If you don’t figure out what love is, what makes you feel loved, and how you will show love to others then others will use that word to manipulate you.
