Safety and Security
“Vote for us! We’ll keep you safe and secure.”
“The safety of our people is the number one priority of the government!”
Really? How, pray tell, will you keep us safe? Will an armed guard or a military platoon be stationed at each of our homes? Will a Secret Service detail be assigned to protect us wherever we go?
Its nonsense! I spent a lot of my adult life in an American City where they never even made an arrest in 60% of the murder cases.
Most people are insecure and are eager to hear that someone will protect them.
However, this fact remains true:
Every human will know Injury, they will know Illness, they will be a victim of a Crime, they will know Failure, they will know Misfortune, they will know Disappointment and they will know Death. These things are inevitable. No one can protect you from the vagaries of life.
The government cannot protect you. The police can only show up after the crime has been committed; to take the report, or draw the chalk outline. Regardless, they can not protect you. News stories about women with protective orders being assaulted or killed appear regularly.
The essential issue, since they can’t really protect you, is how much of your freedom are you willing to surrender to the governement in exchange for this illusion of safety? Because, with every regulation they enact in order to “keep you safe”, you give up a little more freedom.
To be fair, does the military keep the American nation safe from invasion, Yes! Is our massive reservoir of military assets a deterent to certain activities worldwide, Yes! But, in our daily lives they are not standing next to us to keep us from danger. It is unreasonable to expect this.
So, what’s the point?
Your daily safety is your responsibility. You need to be observent and aware of your surroundings. You need to be as prepared as possible to defend yourself and your property. Ultimately your safety is your responsibility. Therefore, resist all attempts by your government to chip away at your freedoms, in the name of “safety and security”.
